AMVETS POST#14 HISTORY


AMVETS POST 14 OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA WAS ORGANIZED UNDER THE NAME OF AMERICAN VETERANS (AMVETS) ON  13 SEPTEMBER 2014 UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF COMMANDER ARTHUR BROWN JR. COMMANDER ARTHUR BROWN JR SERVED TWO YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS UNTIL HIS WIFE BECAME VERY ILL. HE HAD TO STEP DOWN AND TAKE CARE OF HIS WIFE. 1ST VICE SHERWOOD BROWN RELIEVED HIM FROM HIS DUTIES AND ASSUMED POST 14 COMMANDER. POST 14 CAME ON BOARD WITH 43 MEMBERS.


THE NUMBER 14 MEAN THE YEAR THAT THE POST JOINED AMVETS 2014. POST 14 RECEIVED ITS OFFICIAL CHARTER ON 25 NOVEMBER 2014 BY THE NATIONAL COMMANDER LARRY VIA.

THIS WAS A GREAT DAY FOR THE POST.  THIS WAS A DEDICATION CEREMONY TO INSTALL OUR POST OFFICERS AND RECEIVE OUR POST CHARTER.  OUR SPECIAL GUEST WAS OUR NATIONAL COMMANDER:  LARRY VIA, STATE COMMANDER:  TRACY DEAN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: DAVID ROSE AND STATE FINANCE OFFICER:  DAVID LOY.


OUR STATE COMMANDER INSTALLED OUR POST OFFICERS.  HE AND THE STAFF ALSO HANDED OUT EACH MEMBER A CHARTER CERTIFICATE. OUR NATIONAL COMMANDER LARRY VIA INSTALLED OUR POST COMMANDER ARTHUR BROWN JR AND GAVE HIM THE OATH OF OFFICE.  THERE WERE FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS CAME OUT AND REALLY ENJOYED THE CEREMONY.  THERE WERE REFRESHMENTS WITH LOTS OF FOOD TO EAT AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO FELLOWSHIP WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS AND STATE OFFICERS. EVERYONE REALLY ENJOYED THEMSELVES AND HAD A NICE TIME.  THIS WAS A GREAT DAY FOR POST 14 TO REMEMBER.


OUR MISSION IS TO ENHANCE AND SAFEGUARD THE ENTITLEMENTS FOR ALL VETERANS WHO HAVE SERVED HONORABLY AND TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES. 


OUR GOAL IS TO DEVELOP PARTNERSHIP WITH CITIES AND STATE GOVERNMENTS, LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND VETERAN'S HOSPITALS TO ENHANCE SUPPORT FOR ALL VETERANS. WE ALSO HELP AND ASSIST VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND THE COMMUNITY.
